About the performances

'KalabhavanByKeya' presents Chitrangada - The Warrior Princess, a mesmerizing dance drama depicting the valor and beauty of womanhood.

Tagore, a Nobel laureate from India wrote his major poetic work Chitrangada in 1892 as a verse play, taking the original characters from the epic Mahabharata. This play recounts in flashback,  how Princess Chitrangada brought up in the garb of a boy by her father, The King of Manipur (an Indian state) ; was rejected by the Pandava  hero- Arjuna and how she seeks from the God of love supreme feminine beauty to conquer Arjuna. The boon is granted and the new Chitrangada is able to lure Arjuna, not withstanding his vows as a hermit, and spends an year in conjugal bliss. Every good thing has to come to an end,  for Arjuna wakes up to reclaim his masculine prowess and encounter bandits in Manipur, an act accomplished earlier by Princess Chitrangada.

Natanam Academy of Dance and Arts presenteert een unieke voorstelling waarin de dansvormen Mohiniyattam en Bharatanatyam samenkomen. Deze betoverende uitvoering belicht de elegantie van Mohiniyattam en de kracht van Bharatanatyam, en biedt het publiek een onvergetelijke artistieke ervaring.

Natanam Academy zal ook een verhaal gebaseerd op de mythologie presenteren in de stijl van Mohiniyattam. Dit betoverende optreden zal het publiek meenemen op een reis door oude legendes en mythen, verteld met de gracieuze bewegingen en expressieve gebaren van Mohiniyattam.
